Blood will have blood. Unbridled ambition, supernatural forces, and murderous desires reign supreme in Shakespeare’s most poetic examination of evil. When three witches tell Macbeth that he will become King of Scotland, he plots with his wife to attain the title through an assassination; a bloody act that gives him his crown and sends him careening down the path of his own undoing. Artistic Director Simon Godwin directs Tony and BAFTA Award-winner Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient) and Olivier Award-winner Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) in this thrilling account of how our minds deceive us and how a guilty conscience can undo us all.
“★★★★ … Visceral gut-punch of a production. Ralph Fiennes is pure poetry … [he] supplies physical restraint and deliberative, cerebral energy.” – Independent
“★★★★ … Coherent, confident and, yes, old-school classy.” – Telegraph
“★★★★ … It’s a Macbeth that quickens the pulse, then goes for the jugular … Ralph Fiennes is a savage, serpentine Macbeth … The brilliance of his performance is in becoming the dagger he hallucinates.” – Financial Times
“★★★★★ … Varma is consistently enthralling as Lady Macbeth … Ralph Fiennes brings the tragedy pulsing into the present day.” – iNews
“An engrossing experience … Simon Godwin’s intelligent production puts violent conflict to the fore.” – The Guardian
“★★★★ … Directed by Simon Godwin, this is a fascinating, intelligent production … a study of tyranny and the way it corrupts the soul – and a portrait of a relationship smashed apart by a single reckless act.” – What’s On Stage
