Grammy Award winner Catherine Russell is one of the outstanding jazz singers of our time, known for her stunning vocal approach and interpretive works in blues and early jazz.
Catherine Russell’s deep connection to her chosen material is part of a calling. She was born into jazz royalty, as the daughter of two pioneering and legendary musicians. Her father, Luis, was Louis Armstrong's long-time musical director and her mother, Carline Ray, was a vocalist/guitarist/bassist who performed with International Sweethearts of Rhythm. She sings a language that comes naturally, furthering a profound legacy.
Her professional life began at the age of 7, and after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she has toured the world performing and recording with such greats as David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Jackson Browne, Michael Feinstein, Wynton Marsalis, and Rosanne Cash.
Her repertoire features a selection of gems from the 1920s through the present; vital interpretations, bursting with soul and humor.
